Families in Regina have a lot of things available to them if they want to mark Family Day.
“The Frost festival was tremendously successful in showcasing the fun you can have, and the memories you can make, during our prairie winter. We hope that residents will keep exploring the outdoors and take part in free activities offered by the city,” Laurie Shalley, the director of parks, recreation and cultural services for the City of Regina, said in a media release.
There are new cross-country ski trails at the Tor Hill Golf Course for beginner-level skiers that are to be open each day of the long weekend from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There’s crokicurl — a combination of crokinole and curling — at Victoria Park and McNab Park.
Snowshoeing classes are being offered Saturday and Sunday in Les Sherman Park.
And there’s a #YQRWinterFun Scavenger Hunt, with a free family admission to any city leisure centre, skating arena or outdoor pool up for grabs.
More information about the city-run activities can be found here.
As well, Waskimo has been reborn as the Wascana Winter Festival, with activities slated to happen on Wascana Lake and in Wascana Park on Sunday and Monday.
Events include skating, cross-country skiing, snow cricket, broomball and curling at the marina.
“This is fun and it might be a little bit cold, but it’s refreshing — and I think it’s just what everyone needs,” the festival’s Kolene Gustafson said on Friday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show with guest host Sarah Mills.
Everything at the festival is free except for the horse-drawn wagon rides; tickets must be purchased in advance for those.
