A Regina man is $48,000 richer thanks to some clutch hockey skills.
Marcus Crocker was at the Regina Pats’ game Monday night with his kids.
He was selected from the crowd to play in a contest where he’d have to shoot the puck down the ice into a narrow slot cut into a board placed in front of the net.
He could choose to stand at either blue line or centre ice. The further away he was, the more cash he would win.
“You might as well double down and go all in. You probably only get that one opportunity to ever do that, right? … So I might as well go from the far blue,” Crocker told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Wednesday.
Crocker had three tries to win the big cash prize.
Things didn’t seem great at first.
“The first one curled pretty wide, so I tried to adjust the second one. That one missed by a foot or so, so I took a couple steps to my right,” he explained.
He had one shot left, without particularly high expectations.
“I just wanted to hit the board. I didn’t want to embarrass my kids going 0-for-3 not hitting the net,” he said.
However, Crocker nailed the shot, and will be taking home nearly $50,000.
He’ll be given his cheque at Wednesday’s Pats game.
He plans to use some of the money on a family trip, and the rest on something practical like paying down debt.
