The situation with COVID-19 in Saskatchewan is good enough that all of the public health orders will be dropped as of Monday, but the province’s state of emergency will continue.
On Wednesday, Premier Scott Moe signed an order in council to extend the declaration of a state of emergency.
Last week, Moe explained the state of emergency would still be in effect so health-care workers could still be directed and moved around the system.
“As soon as our health-care system is able to function without having to be able to pull, for example, some nurses out of one facility and to move them into another area of care, as soon as we’re able to function without having to do that, we would lift the emergency act immediately,” said Moe.
The state of emergency is required to be able to move workers, which Moe said was surprising and something he thinks the government needs to have a look at.
On Monday at 12:01 a.m., the remaining public health measures in Saskatchewan — including mandatory mask use in indoor public spaces — will be lifted.
