Saskatoon Blades head coach Brennan Sonne says he’s happy the WHL playoff series against the Moose Jaw Warriors is heading to Saskatoon and not just for the home-ice advantage.
Sonne said that at the end of Friday’s 5-1 Game 1 loss in Moose Jaw at Mosaic Place, a cowbell was thrown at his team.
“(Playing in Saskatoon) is going to be great because I won’t get metal cowbells thrown at me after the game. I’m excited so that we don’t get things thrown at us,” Sonne said after Saturday’s 5-3 loss to Moose Jaw in Game 2. “I’m excited so that we don’t get things thrown at us. They hit one of our players.
“The home crowd won’t do that to us, I hope.”
In a written statement, the Warriors indicated they were in contact with the WHL on Saturday ahead of the second game of the playoff series. After talks with the WHL about the incident, there was increased security near the visitors’ bench for Game 2.
The Warriors said there weren’t any incidents during the game on Saturday.
Moose Jaw currently holds a 2-0 lead in the series.
Game 3 at SaskTel Centre takes place on Tuesday. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
