The first SGI rebate cheques are in the mail and the rest will be sent by the end of the month, the Crown corporation announced this morning.
SGI customers will receive a $100 rebate cheque for each vehicle or motorcycle they had registered with SGI as of March 9. The rebates include private, commercial and farm vehicles, but not trailers or snowmobiles. There was no application or request process; those with a registered vehicle will simply get a cheque in the mail.
“World events continue to put pressure on the cost of living, and SGI is proud to provide nearly $90 million in relief to customers,” Don Morgan, the minister responsible for SGI, said in a statement Thursday.
“Well-performing investments have brought the Auto Fund’s Rate Stabilization Reserve to a surplus, and now is a good time to put some of that money into the pockets of Saskatchewan people.”
The cheques will be mailed out in 10 batches between now and the end of the month, SGI said. The mailing order is randomly assigned by SGI’s system, meaning two customers living in the same household might get their cheques up to two weeks apart.
SGI asked customers to be patient, but requested that anyone who hasn’t seen their rebate by June 21, or anyone who believes the value of their cheque is inaccurate, to contact its customer service centre.
The insurer also cautioned customers to beware of scams claiming to be associated with the rebates, and to ignore any texts directing them to click a link to apply for the rebate.
This is the second round of rebates for SGI customers, after a previous rebate was issued in 2021.
