The La Ronge RCMP has arrested a man wanted in connection with an incident that saw police exchange gunfire with a suspect, but a female suspect is still at large.
On June 19, shots were fired at an RCMP vehicle in La Ronge, prompting an emergency alert and massive police response in the northern community. More than a dozen people were arrested in connection with the incident, though most have since been released without charges.
After tracking down and arresting one suspect in Saskatoon on June 22, the Mounties said they’ve made another arrest and are still searching for one suspect.
According to police, 36-year-old Allan Sanderson was found in the back seat of a vehicle parked at a business in La Ronge. The RCMP said he was hiding under a blanket when he was found, and an illegally modified firearm was also seized from the vehicle.
Sanderson is charged with obstruction and unauthorized possession of a firearm in relation to the June 19 incident, the RCMP said, and he has been the subject of a manhunt since June 20.
While Sanderson was located, the case is not yet closed. The Mounties said they’re still hunting for 22-year-old Celine Charles, who’s facing a charge of obstruction.
Charles is 5-foot-4 and weighs 112 pounds, police said. She has a rose tattoo on her left hand, a heart and flame tattoo on her left arm, and “Charles” tattooed on her chest.
The RCMP said any sightings of Charles can be reported to police, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
In a statement, La Ronge RCMP Sgt. Brent Nicol said the police are thankful for the help they’ve received from the community of La Ronge.
“Our community is safer when we have this productive, collaborative relationship between residents and police,” Nicol said.
