Eloping has become a bit of a trend in the wedding industry for millennials.
Elopement is when a couple decides to go to a desired destination with few to no family members or friends to get married instead of planning a massive wedding ceremony and reception to fit into one long day.
In most elopements, couples will go somewhere extravagant or tropical like Las Vegas or Mexico to tie the knot.
For Krystal and Chad Brent, their elopement destination of choice was the notorious city of Moose Jaw.
The couple travelled almost six hours to the city from Lethbridge to sign the papers on Saturday.
“We really love the 1920s and the history with bootlegging and everything that goes with that. We really wanted our wedding to be personalized,” says Krystal.
She adds that Moose Jaw was the perfect setting for their 1920s-themed wedding.
The whole town itself — with the old buildings, the ceilings, the connections to Al Capone — it just seemed like the perfect place to go and get married and be able to enjoy ourselves in our personalized way,” Krystal said.
The Brents were originally planning to have a big wedding ceremony with a 1920s theme but they decided that travelling to marry and coming to a place on their own that they knew they’d love would give them more cherished memories.
The couple dressed up in their fanciest 1920s-styled clothing and accessories to get hitched in Grant Hall.
Afterwards, the couple trotted down to the famous Tunnels of Moose Jaw.
They indulged in the theatrics and history in the Chicago Connection Tunnel and had the opportunity to participate in the interactive aspects of the tunnel.
The Brents then finished off their weekend with some Moose Jaw cuisine and sightseeing around the city before they headed back to Lethbridge.
