A dangerous person alert is being issued by the Melfort RCMP after several reports of stabbings around the James Smith Cree Nation, roughly 40 kilometres northwest of Melfort.
“Sask. RCMP is responding and trying to locate two male suspects,” a release from the police said on Sunday morning shortly after 7 a.m.
Police are saying the suspects are Damien and Myles Sanderson.
Damien is described as being 5 ft 7 inches tall, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Myles is believed to be 6 ft 1 inch tall, 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Around 11:45 a.m. RCMP said in their latest update on the developing situation that officers had received reports that the suspects could be driving inside Regina.
Police say the suspects are believed to be in a black Nissan Rogue with Saskatchewan license plate 119 MPI.
Around 10 a.m. police announced in an update that there were multiple victims in multiple locations around the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, southwest of the First Nation.
“Early indications may be that victims were attacked randomly,” the updated release said.
“Do not leave a secure location. Use caution allowing others into your residence. DO NOT APPROACH suspicious persons. Do not pick up hitchhikers. Report emergencies or info to 911.”
The Saskatchewan RCMP is also saying that a previous picture of the suspects was incorrect and that the latest picture provided is the most accurate one.
“With the same unfolding circumstances and public safety in mind, the Saskatchewan RCMP is working to determine an appropriate time to hold a news conference,” the release read.
“As the suspects are at large, we have also asked for the alert to be extended to Manitoba and Alberta.”
The Regina Police Service did release a statement just after 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The RPS said they’re working with the RCMP to locate and apprehend the suspects involved in the situation. RPS mentioned it has brought in additional investigative resources and is working cooperatively, diligently and swiftly with the RCMP.
As for today’s Saskatchewan Roughriders game, RPS says additional resources have been deployed at and around Mosaic Stadium to ensure the safety of the public.
