Starting Monday, more Saskatchewan residents will become eligible for Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 booster dose.
According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccine will be available at Saskatchewan Health Authority clinics and in certain pharmacies, with priority groups becoming eligible first. That means anyone 70 or older, and anyone 50 or older who resides in First Nations and Métis communities or in the Northern Service Administration District.
“It is recommended that eligible populations receive the Moderna bivalent booster dose at least four months following their last COVID-19 vaccination,” the ministry wrote in a news release.
“The bivalent booster can only be used as a booster and not as the first or second dose in a primary vaccination series.”
Only those who have completed at least two primary doses are eligible for the booster, and those who have had COVID-19 can receive any booster dose after they have recovered.
More age groups will become eligible as Saskatchewan gets a greater supply of the vaccine, which is expected to happen in early October.
