The Saskatoon Blades are off to a quick start to the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season.
Tyler Parr played the roll of overtime hero on Saturday night, helping the Blades defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 2-1 at SaskTel Centre.
The Blades completed the back-to-back victories after spoiling the Raiders’ home opener the night before.
Parr explained that every night isn’t going to be pretty and that getting the two points is the most important thing.
“Our penalty kill was amazing. We fed off that and it made our 5-on-5 game even stronger,” he said.
“When it came to overtime, we were ready to go.”
Lukas Hansen gave the Blades the early lead, scoring his first WHL regular-season goal. Austin Elliot made 24 saves in net in front of just over 6,300 fans in attendance for the team’s home opener.
The Blue and Gold return to action next Saturday when they host the Swift Current Broncos. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
In Moose Jaw, the Regina Pats avenged Friday’s 5-4 loss to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors with a 6-3 win in Moose Jaw on Saturday.
Connor Bedard had three goals and an assist for Regina, which got its other goals from Borya Valis, Parker Berge and Easton Armstrong. Nathan Pilling, Atley Calvert and Brayden Yager replied for the Warriors.
