Kian Schaffer-Baker is the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ lone West Division all-star.
The 24-year-old receiver from Mississauga, Ont., was selected in voting by members of the Football Reporters of Canada, their respective division’s head coaches, and CFL fans.
Schaffer-Baker set new career highs in his sophomore season with 68 catches for 960 yards with five touchdowns. He finished 11th in the CFL and second among Canadians in receiving yards.
He also was part of the Roughriders’ running game, carrying the ball 13 times for 74 yards.
Despite leading the league in tackles for a second straight year, Roughriders linebacker Darnell Sankey wasn’t selected. Nor was Saskatchewan returner Mario Alford, the West Division’s nominee for the CFL award as most outstanding special-teams player.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers led the way with 11 division all-stars, with the B.C. Lions and Calgary Stampeders placing six players each on the team. The Edmonton Elks had three all-stars.
In the East Division, the Toronto Argonauts had 16 all-stars, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats had seven, and the Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks had two apiece.
The CFL all-stars are to be announced on Nov. 10.
