Regina police have released more details about Wednesday’s fatal collision on Ring Road in south Regina.
In a media release Thursday, police said the crash happened just after 1:15 p.m., between Wascana Parkway and Albert Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found people helping an 18-year-old woman who was lying on the ground. She had been driving a white Taurus that was sitting heavily damaged on the road.
Officers also found a black Ford truck in the ditch south of the eastbound lanes of Ring Road. The man driving the truck had been killed in the collision.
A third vehicle, a Honda SUV, was in the ditch between the road’s eastbound and westbound lanes. None of the people in that vehicle were hurt.
Police have determined the Taurus was heading west on Ring Road toward the Albert Street exit when the car went through the ditch and hit the truck, which was heading east. Police say the force of the collision sent the truck into the ditch south of the road.
The initial release from police mistakenly had the vehicles’ direction of travel reversed.
Drivers faced delays in both directions as officers investigated the crash.
The 18-year-old driving the Taurus was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police aren’t releasing the name of the driver of the truck, but said his family had been notified.
The Regina Police Service is asking anyone who has information about the incident to call 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
