The Regina Pats have traded away one of their assistant captains.
Regina sent forward Cole Dubinsky to the Prince George Cougars on Friday for 17-year-old forward Zackary Shantz and a third-round pick in the 2023 WHL draft.
Dubinsky, 19, has two goals and five assists in 11 games with the Pats this season. The Ardrossan, Alta., product has played in 203 games for the Pats and has recorded 38 goals and 65 assists in those games. He was drafted in the fourth round (79th overall) of the 2017 WHL draft.
Shantz has appeared in four games for the Cougars this season, but hasn’t recorded a point. He had 23 goals and 34 assists in 28 games last season with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep program.
He was taken in the third round (66th overall) by the Cougars in the 2020 WHL draft.
“We would like to thank Cole for his contributions to the Pats and wish him all the best in Prince George,” Pats GM-head coach John Paddock said in a release. “Zack has some good upside. Our early reports on him in U15 and U18 were good.
“We welcome him and look forward to him joining our team.”
