Regina Pats equipment manager Gord Cochran is off to the 2023 world junior hockey championship.
Cochran was named to the support staff for Canada’s entry in the tournament, which is to be held Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Halifax and Moncton.
Cochran joined the Pats prior to the 2014-15 WHL season. The product of Williams Lake, B.C., has worked with Canadian teams at the under-17 and under-18 levels.
Canada’s squad at the upcoming world junior tournament will be guided by head coach Dennis Williams of the WHL’s Everett Silvertips. He’ll be assisted by Stéphane Julien (QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix), Brent Kisio (WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes) and Alan Letang (OHL’s Sarnia Sting), as well as goaltending consultant Kelly Guard (WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders).
The world junior team is to hold a four-day selection camp in Moncton from Dec. 9-12 before selecting its roster. Pats star Connor Bedard is expected to be part of that squad.
