Extreme cold warnings are sweeping Saskatchewan.
According to Environment Canada, the highest wind chill values Tuesday will be between -40 C and -45 C.
But the bitter cold doesn’t stop Jeff Schabang, a Co-op gas attendant.
He has been working for the company for 10 years and said the first piece of advice he gives new employees is to “layer up.”

Even when temperatures get to -40, Schabang still spends his eight-hour shift outside pumping gas for vehicles. He noted it’s crucial to “wear as many layers as you can, I’m wearing three shirts right now (and a ) jacket.”
He and other employees also keep warm by cycling inside the station to take a break from the cold. He also says it’s important to keep moving.
The layers seem to help: Schabang said he doesn’t think he has ever had frostbite.
Although there is a long winter ahead for outside workers, Schabang said the best part of his job is helping customers.
