Hockey Saskatchewan is creating a new junior league for women under the age of 22.
The league is to start play in the 2023-24 season.
According to the organization, more than a dozen communities showed interest in forming a provincial female junior hockey league when a virtual call was held in September with individuals from minor hockey associations.
“With Under-13 AA this year within the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League, we’ve seen that league grow to well over 100 teams,” Hockey Saskatchewan general manager Kelly McClintock said in a media release. “Adding a Junior (U22) option for young ladies is something that’s going to be exciting as well.
“Our Task Team is creating the process to recommend to the Board how teams can apply, how teams will be selected and how the league will be administered. It is a great initiative for us.”
Hockey Saskatchewan is expected to release more information about the league in January.
