The Moose Jaw Police Service is requesting an independent investigation after an individual died in police custody.
At around 10 p.m. on Saturday, a person in the police service’s detention centre went into medical distress and stopped breathing.
Police officers responded immediately and started CPR. EMS responded, continued treatment and transported the patient to hospital. However, the individual was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In accordance with the Coroners Act, 1999, the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, Serious Incident Response Team, and the Weyburn Police Service have been notified and will independently investigate the death.
To respect the independent investigation process, the Moose Jaw Police Service will not be providing any more information on the situation.
