The popular Wadena Bakery and Coffee Shop has been put up for sale with hopes someone will take on the legacy.
The current owners, Steven and Margaret Suik, decided to sell the bakery so they can retire and because of some health issues that Steven has.
“It has to end for us sometime. It can’t go on forever as much as some people would like us too,” Steven said.
Wadena is about 210 kilometres east of Saskatoon.

Suik said he’s hoping whoever buys the local coffee shop keeps it how it is.
“The business has been very good to us. It’s doing very well,” he said.
Suik explained he hopes the business will remain the same.
“I’m hoping that we find someone that will run it as a bakery because I think the town will miss it if someone were to buy it for some other purpose,” he said.
“If they run it as much of the same as we have, they shouldn’t have any problems in making a decent living.”
The Wadena Bakery and Coffee Shop has been in the Suik family since 1959, with Steven and Margaret being the second-generation owners for the last 36 years.
The owners have seen a lot of reaction about the bakery being for sale, with the listing having just over 140 comments and more than 150 shares on Facebook.
Many of the comments are expressing their support for the coffee shop and others saying how much they will miss staples like the Boston cream donuts.
“Some people are a little shocked. A lot are saying I hope whoever buys it continues to run it with the same product line or similar product lines as we have,” he said.
Suik also reflected on his time on owning the coffee shop.
“It’s been a good life here in Wadena. We’ve raised a family here (and) we’ve had quite a few good years,” he said.
Suik added that all of the support they’ve received over the years is something they appreciate.
As for what’s next for the couple, they’re hoping to do some travelling.
“We definitely have some ideas of places we’d like to go and visit and just relax and enjoy our camper,” Suik said.
He also joked how it will be nice to sleep in every day.
“I hope that someone takes it over and continues the legacy,” Suik said.
In a Facebook post, the couple said while the bakery is for sale, they will keep operating it until a new owner is found.
