In a battle at the Brandt Centre, it was the Regina Pats who came out the victors.
Regina beat the Swift Current Broncos 5-2 in front of a 6,499 at the Brandt Centre on Saturday. The game, which was also Nickelodeon Night where the Pats wore special SpongeBob SquarePants jerseys, was the most-attended home game of the year for Regina.
Pats captain Connor Bedard pushed his point streak to 32 games, scoring twice in the contest. The 17-year-old has 59 points in his last 21 games and has scored 12 times in five games since winning a gold medal with Team Canada at the world junior championship in Halifax, N.S.
Bedard leads the WHL in goals (39), assists (42), points (81), and shots on goal (220).
Regina (22-20-1-1) also got goals from Tanner Howe, Alexander Suzdalev, and Matteo Michels. It was Michels’ first career WHL goal.
Swift Current (21-18-0-2) got goals from Clarke Caswell and Connor Gabriel.
Regina is next in action on Jan. 29 against the Medicine Hat Tigers (18-21-5-1).
The Pats auctioned off the SpongeBob jerseys after the game, earning $29,550 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Bedard’s jersey sold for $13,025 after 52 bids, with Howe’s jersey going for $2,025 after 23 bids.
