The former Waskimo Winter Festival is back, but it has been renamed the Wascana Winter Festival.
It went on a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic but returned in 2022.
This year it’s scheduled to take place Sunday and Monday — lining up perfectly for Family Day.
Admission is free; the only event that people will need to buy tickets for is the horse-drawn wagon ride.
“We’ve got some public ice skating on the Rink on Wascana. We’ve got some cross-country skiing on the Science Centre trail (and) snow cricket on the west lawn of the (Legislative Building). On Monday, we’ve added the horse-drawn wagon rides from Darke Hall,” the festival’s Kolene Gustafson told The Greg Morgan Morning Show.
“Tickets can be purchased for $5 a person on our website.”
Gustafson said the festival has brought back its popular children’s festival, which will also be located in Darke Hall.
“It feels so great to offer an indoor program again,” she said.
“In Darke Hall from 1 p.m. to 430 p.m. on Monday, we’re going to have lots of stuff going on with musicians, salsa dancers, there’s a magician, (and) there’s Indigenous performers.”
Gustafson also said there will be a fire performance outside, and that people will get a chance to roast marshmallows in a fire pit.
More information on the festival can be found on its website.
