The Saskatoon Blades will need to wait at least one more day to clinch a spot in the WHL playoffs.
A four-goal third period by the Prince Albert Raiders got Friday’s game into overtime. Then, just 49 seconds into the extra frame, Sloan Stanick scored to give the Raiders a 6-5 win at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
Both teams came into the game on four-game winning streaks. The Blades needed a win in any fashion to clinch a playoff spot.
Jake Chiasson had two goals Saskatoon. Brandon Lisowsky, Vaughn Watterodt and Aidan De La Gorgendiere also scored for the home team.
The Raiders’ other goal scorers were Ryder Ritchie, Hayden Pakkala, Landon Kosior, Niall Crocker and Aiden Oiring. Kosior and Oiring each added two assists.
Saskatoon is now just a point away from clinching a spot in the playoffs.
A rematch is to take place Saturday in Prince Albert.
