Students at Regina’s McLurg School will be going back to class Tuesday, but not in their usual buildings.
The school in the Normanview West neighbourhood was closed Monday due to a water main break. Late Monday afternoon, Regina Public Schools announced it had made arrangements for all pre-K to Grade 8 students from McLurg to be “temporarily accommodated” at other nearby public schools starting Tuesday.
Students’ families were given more details directly Monday afternoon.
Parents of pre-Kindergarten students are to drop off and pick up their children at the school to which they had been temporarily assigned.
All Kindergarten to Grade 8 students are to be picked up at McLurg by school buses before the school day and taken to their temporary schools. They’ll be dropped off at McLurg after the school day ends.
“For the most part, McLurg classroom teachers and others who work directly with students will follow students to their new, temporary classrooms where they will continue to learn together in their own classrooms,” the division said in a release.
The school division said there’s no school Friday and the April break is set for next week. As a result, it expects all of the repairs and work that’s needed at McLurg after the water main break can be done before classes resume April 17.
“There is currently no available estimate for damages or the cost of repairs at McLurg School,” the division’s release added.
