Two people were arrested Wednesday after a gun call resulted in a police operation in the 1200 block of Queen Street – and another school being put into “secure the building mode.”
In a release, a police spokesperson said the incident was not related to a shooting on Sixth Avenue earlier in the day that prompted schools in the North Central neighbourhood to close their doors.
The initial release from police about the operation on Queen Street asked motorists and pedestrians to use an alternate route, and advised those in the immediate area to shelter in place. That media release was followed by another 20 minutes later saying the operation was done.
In a subsequent release, police said officers responded at 3:15 p.m. to a call about a weapons offence. Police said the officers were told an assault had occurred and a gun was at the residence.
The release said a nearby school went into “secure the building mode,” but didn’t say which school was involved. Seven Stones Community School is just two blocks away.
That advisory was lifted later in the day.
Police said their investigation is continuing.
