If you’re leaving Regina on a jet plane, you’ll have a lot more options in the months ahead.
The Regina International Airport said flight capacity will rebound to 93 per cent of pre-pandemic levels this summer. According to spokesperson Justin Reves, Air Canada and WestJet are going to offer Regina passengers the highest number of seats since 2019.
“This is great news for the public because more airline capacity means more options to fly with more competitive pricing,” Reves said in a statement.
According to the airport authority, Air Canada will be adding 2,800 more seats to Toronto and more than 1,000 additional seats to Vancouver this summer. That airline is also bringing back daily flights to Montreal starting in June, the authority added.
WestJet will also be adding 8,000 more seats this summer between Regina and Calgary, the authority said, with as many as seven flights a day between the two centres. WestJet will also be flying to Edmonton twice a day, to Vancouver and Toronto daily, and to Winnipeg five times each week.
In addition, the airport authority said WestJet will also be starting non-stop flights to Kelowna on Sundays and Thursdays starting next month.
James Bogusz, president and CEO of the airport authority, said it’s great to see capacity starting to rebound to pre-pandemic levels.
“As a result of the tremendous effort from our business community, conferences, events, and visitor attraction, tourism promotion, and a strong economy, we’re seeing airline capacity rebounding,” Bogusz said in a statement.
“This is exciting news and we see great things ahead thanks to the incredible work that’s happening in our community.”
