It’s a Dream come true for the Regina Humane Society.
Dream Developments has donated $500,000 to help the humane society in its efforts to reach its $15-million fundraising goal for the new Animal Community Centre. The fundraising drive is a multi-year campaign.
The humane society has been trying to secure funding for the project for 12 years now.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for this incredibly generous gift from Dream,” Lisa Koch, the humane society’s executive director, said in a media release. “Dream has been by our side for the past several years as we worked together to make this lifesaving Centre for animals, and the people who love them, a reality.
“We are honoured to receive this donation and look forward to the sharing the Dream Dog Play Park at the Animal Community Centre with the community when it opens later this fall.”
The humane society broke ground in May of 2022 on the $28-million centre on Parliament Avenue in the Harbour Landing neighbourhood. The new facility will be double the size of the humane society’s current location on Armour Road.
The media release Tuesday said people can adopt a pet at the Animal Community Centre, but also can “learn about, engage with and celebrate animals.”
“At Dream, creating spaces that are inclusive and enrich the lives of those living and working in our neighbourhoods is fundamental to what we do,” said Jason Carlston, Dream’s regional vice-president.
“The Regina Humane Society’s compassionate care, connection and advocacy in support of the well-being of animals and Regina residents strengthen our community. We are not only thrilled to be able to support the Humane Society’s growth but also to welcome the new facility to one of Dream’s communities, Harbour Landing.”
