A grey Ford pickup truck and the individuals inside it are keeping the Saskatchewan RCMP busy.
In a media release Tuesday, the Maidstone Mounties said the truck and its unidentified occupants had been involved in an armed robbery in that town. The RCMP lost sight of the truck as it sped off in a cloud of dust.
On Wednesday, the RCMP issued a follow-up release saying the suspects and the truck — a 2006 F-350 Super Duty pickup truck with Saskatchewan licence plate 720 KBF — had been involved in a number of incidents after the one in Maidstone.
According to the Mounties, Cut Knife RCMP officers patrolling on the Poundmaker Cree Nation saw the truck on Monday night and tried to pull it over, but it sped off.
Early Tuesday morning, Battlefords RCMP officers saw the truck in North Battleford and again tried to pull it over.
“The driver did not stop and then rammed a police vehicle,” the Mounties’ release said. “The officers were not injured but the vehicle was damaged to the point of being inoperable.”
The RCMP said other officers saw the truck on Highway 4 and again tried to stop it, but it took off.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Biggar RCMP got a call about a gun being fired at a rural property in the RM of Glenside. The Mounties said they were told the truck entered the property and a group of men tried to steal diesel from a tractor. One of the men then fired a gun as they sped away in the truck.
A search didn’t locate the Ford.
Finally, on Tuesday evening, the Warman RCMP got a call about a fuel theft in Maymont.
“Soon after, they received a report the suspect truck was observed leaving a gas station on the Yellowhead Highway near Radisson,” the release said. “Officers patrolled the area, located the truck on Highway 16 near the Borden Bridge and attempted a traffic stop. The truck fled.”
Again, a search failed to find the truck or its occupants. Police said there may be an increased police presence in west-central Saskatchewan as the search continues.
The Mounties advised people to secure all freestanding and slip fuel tanks with locks, make sure their tractors are locked and remove keys from all vehicles.
Anyone who sees the truck — which the Mounties said may now have a different licence plate — was urged to call police immediately instead of approaching the truck.
People can call their local police service or the nearest RCMP detachment at 310-RCMP. In an emergency, people should dial 911.
