One person has died after a serious accident at Regina’s airport on Friday night.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. near the work being done for the runway overlay project.
Emergency crews were on the scene immediately, but the individual died as a result of their injuries.
The Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service worked to contain the site overnight as federal occupational health and safety will be conducting the investigation.
On Saturday, the Regina Airport Authority sent out a written statement about the incident on behalf of president and CEO James Bogusz.
YQR said it will not be revealing the name of the person who died and that it won’t comment on any details of the investigation, which is being conducted by federal occupational health and safety workers.
“The privacy of the individual is paramount,” Bogusz said Saturday in a phone interview.
Bogusz said YQR will continue posting updates throughout the weekend on its social media pages.
“We’re so sad for this news. It sent shockwaves through the entire team here at YQR and of course all of those working on the runway project,” Bogusz said.
“Our prayers go to their families, their friends and their entire community. It’s just unbelievable.”
