Construction at the Regina airport has resumed in the wake of an incident Friday night that claimed the life of a construction worker.
In a statement issued Wednesday, James Bogusz — the president and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority — said the incident has resulted in “an incredibly challenging few days” at the airport.
Bogusz said federal and provincial occupational health and safety inspectors have finished the on-site portion of their investigations. PCL, the construction company doing the work at the airport, is conducting its own investigation as well.
“A soft restart to the project occurred on Monday but the primary focus was on the people involved and ensuring supports were being utilized by those impacted …,” Bogusz said in the statement.
“At all times, the people involved with the situation have been provided full support and opportunities for crisis counselling and related discussion.”
The incident happened Friday around 11:30 p.m. near the work being done for the runway overlay project.
Emergency crews were on the scene immediately, but the individual died as a result of their injuries.
The name of the employee isn’t being released.
