It looks like a clown’s nose and kids won’t stop pressing it.
The emergency stop button for the waterslides at the new Wascana Pool is getting a workout.
The button has been pushed multiple times, causing the waterslides to keep resetting over and over again.
Bobbie Selinger, the City of Regina’s manager of community and recreation programs, told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Thursday that changes have been made to the reset mechanism to make resets happen much quicker.
“Hopefully, people won’t be pushing the button quite so much,” Selinger said.
She said the city is looking into working with health inspectors to put a cover over the button to discourage people from pressing it when there’s no emergency.
“That would still make it safe, so that we could get to that button really quickly and stop something if we need to, but also maybe just put a little barrier in front of those people who are looking to push the button,” Selinger added. “It is a nice, big, red button.”
Security has been beefed up at the pool since a bear spray incident that happened on opening day last Thursday.
Selinger said the security guards will remain on site until at least the end of June.
“We’re going to continue to evaluate as things happen,” she added. “Obviously, safety is our first priority.”
