A one-year-old boy is dead after a hit-and-run on the George Gordon First Nation.
In an update to an earlier release Friday, the RCMP provided details on the victim and on the suspect.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 33-year-old Mervin Poorman from the Kawacatoose First Nation. He has been charged with one count each of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death and operation of a vehicle while prohibited.
Poorman was described as being 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police said he has a number of tattoos on his arms, including the name “Poorman” on his left forearm and one described as the “Browning” logo on his right hand.
Police allege Poorman was driving a black 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck with Saskatchewan licence plate 274 MNW that struck the child.
The Mounties said anyone who sees Poorman should not approach him or the truck, but instead should call the Punnichy RCMP at 306-835-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The RCMP said the incident happened Thursday at about 5:50 p.m., on the George Gordon First Nation. Officers and paramedics responded to a call about a hit-and-run involving a child.
The paramedics pronounced the toddler dead at the scene.
The George Gordon First Nation is about 120 kilometres north of Regina.
