Repairs to a sewer line in south Regina will affect traffic on a stretch of Albert Street near Gordon Road for about three weeks.
Starting Tuesday, crews will start relining a pipe that provides sewer service to almost 3,000 properties, homes, and businesses. The city said the work will take place along Albert Street, Gordon Road and Rae Street.
Crews are to install a temporary bypass overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, which is to maintain service to all of the properties. Traffic will be detoured in the night during the ramp installations.
After that work is done, traffic along the Albert Street service roads just north of Gordon Road, Gordon just east of Albert, and Rae just north of Westfield Drive will face lane closures and speed reductions while the bypass is in place. The bypass pipe will run along Rae from Westfield to Sunset Drive.
“A temporary wastewater bypass system will be operating throughout the day and night to ensure area residents can still flush their toilets, have a shower and do laundry without interruption throughout the project,” the city said. “The system is powered by generators that must run 24 hours a day. Nearby residents may hear them running over the next three weeks.”
The city said it will try to keep the noise down between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. It added that during the curing process, residents could experience a slight chemical smell, but it’s not hazardous and should dissipate.
There are three more sewer lining projects planned for this year. Work is to occur on Broadway Avenue from Winnipeg Street to Broad Street in mid-July, on 17th Avenue from Francis Street to Winnipeg Street in August, and in the south channel from Rae Street to Lakeview Avenue in September and October.
