Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an incident in Regina.
The team is a civilian-led group that investigates any serious incidents involving police officers around the province, and investigates cases where a serious injury or death occurs in police custody or as a result of police actions. The team also investigates allegations of sexual assault or interpersonal violence perpetrated by police officers.
While very few details were shared, the Regina Police Service said officers were “holding a scene” on East Riverbend Drive, and the Serious Incident Response Team has been engaged.
“No further details are available at this time,” police said in a brief statement. “There is no threat to public safety as a result of this ongoing investigation and those in the area can go about their regular activities.”
Less than an hour later, police issued a brief update saying the SIRT members had arrived and taken over the scene from police.
