Next time you go for a walk or a bike ride, look down — you might find a manhole cover that doesn’t look right.
City of Edmonton sewer lids can be found in some Regina streets.
The manhole covers have been spotted all over the city. Some were found as far south as the University of Regina neighbourhood, while others were in residential areas in the north end.
According to images on Google Maps, some of the lids have been in the city since 2009.
In a statement, the City of Regina said it’s aware of the manhole covers from Edmonton. The city suggested they likely were placed during regular road maintenance over the years.
The city said if the factory from which it ordered materials was down, the city would order from an alternative that met its requirements. Sometimes, that meant receiving materials with the name of a different city.
“We will switch them with City of Regina branded covers when they require replacement,” the city’s statement said.
The City of Regina didn’t have further information about the City of Edmonton manhole covers, including how many there are in Regina.
A statement from the City of Edmonton said its drainage infrastructure moved over to the Edmonton Power Corporation (EPCOR) a few years ago and noted any questions about the manhole covers should be referred to that company.
EPCOR didn’t have any details about the mystery sewer lids.
