Regina’s water network is set to grow.
On Monday, the city announced work on a three-year infrastructure project is set to begin this week. The project’s goal is to expand the network to prepare for future growth throughout the city.
A new water pumping station with a solar system for renewable energy generation will be built, along with two new water storage reservoirs and an 8.4-kilometre water supply main.
According to the city, the pumping station and reservoirs will allow the city’s water network to handle a population of up to 310,000 people. The facilities also will be expandable in the future to provide service to a population of 500,000 people.
The first phase will start with the construction of the water pumping station and reservoirs at 2605 Redbear Ave. E.
“Traffic restrictions along Fleet Street and Redbear Avenue are anticipated to occur in September and October 2023,” the city said in a media release. “Traffic restrictions along Ring Road are not anticipated with this project until the 2024 construction season.”
