Regina now can call itself Saskatchewan’s most active community.
The city announced Tuesday that it earned that title by winning the fourth edition of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. According to a release, the challenge is “a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone to get active throughout the month of June.”
The city won $15,000 to support physical activity and sport initiatives. It said in the release it plans to use the money to help pay for the installation of an accessible elevator at Wascana Pool.
“I want to extend my appreciation to the residents of Regina for enthusiastically participating in this challenge, demonstrating how being active can bring both fun and rewarding experiences,” Mayor Sandra Masters said in the release. “To ParticipACTION and their partners — thank you for encouraging Canadians to embrace active lifestyles and for supporting community wellness initiatives.”
The release said the city tracked more than 2.2 million minutes of physical activity through 300 community members and organizations. The Al Ritchie Community Association, Autism Resource Centre Inc., Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan, Coronation Park Community School, Four Directions Community Health Centre, Growing Young Movers Youth Development Inc., North Central Community Association and Queen City Eastview Community Association participated.
