The five individuals charged with robbing a Moose Jaw restaurant on Sunday made their first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday.
As a result, Constantin Marin, Florica Fardi, Stelian Grancea, Livu Nicolae Lacatus and Geani Costache — who are all of Romanian descent — were all charged with theft under $5,000.
Marin and Costache were also charged with having Canadian, American and Chinese currency over $5,000, which allegedly was obtained through crime.
The group was released on a $500 deposit with the promise to return to court when required. Their next court date is scheduled for Aug. 30.
After allegedly stealing an undetermined amount of money from a Moose Jaw restaurant, the group fled in a vehicle and headed west on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The group was stopped on the Trans-Canada Highway between Moose Jaw and Caronport and arrested by the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol after going 150 kilometres per hour in a 110 km/h speed zone.
Officers found $12,700 in various currencies in the vehicle, which was seized by police.
The Canada Border Services Agency is also involved in the case, as some of the individuals may get deported.
It has been determined that the group is from Ontario.
The investigation is continuing.
