There’s a new face at the helm of Saskatchewan’s Crown telecommunications company.
On Thursday, SaskTel’s board announced the appointment of Charlene Gavel as the company’s new president and CEO. She takes over the role from Doug Burnett, who announced his retirement in February.
Gavel has served as the company’s chief financial officer for nine years, and the board said it is confident she has the industry, business and financial knowledge to take on the top job.
“Ms. Gavel is well respected within the company and with her extensive experience in developing effective and innovative strategic plans is well positioned to lead the company in a highly competitive communications industry,” SaskTel said in a statement.
Prior to her start with SaskTel, Gavel held roles with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and Information Services Corporation.
Don Morgan, minister responsible for SaskTel, thanked Burnett for his service to the company and welcomed Gavel to her new role.
“Doug Burnett has been instrumental in leading SaskTel through major infrastructure projects, including the 5G Network Modernization Program, Wireless Saskatchewan, and the ongoing Rural Fibre Initiative,” Morgan said in a statement.
“I’m pleased to welcome Charlene Gavel to her new role as CEO. Her extensive knowledge and experience with SaskTel will be a significant asset as the company continues investing in communities across Saskatchewan.”
