An incident that was caught on video and shared on social media has resulted in charges against two girls.
A 12-year-old is facing charges of robbery and failure to comply with an undertaking, and a 13-year-old was charged with robbery after the incident, which Regina police say occurred Aug. 2 in a parking lot outside a business along Lewvan Drive.
Neither girl can be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
An 11-year-old girl, whom police say also was involved, can’t be charged because she’s under the age of 12.
According to police, the incident happened just after 11:15 p.m. as a group of girls walked through the parking lot. The video posted online shows it occurring at the McDonald’s on the REAL District campus.
A police media release said the group was “confronted by another group of females and the victim, a 16-year-old female, was assaulted and had her cellphone and identification stolen.” The suspects then took off.
Police were able to identify the suspects and arrest them. The two who were charged are to appear in Youth Court on Sept. 19.
