Employees at the Global Transportation Hub now can take the bus to work.
The City of Regina announced Monday it had reached an agreement with the Global Transportation Hub Authority to expand bus service on Route 1 to the GTH.
The route currently serves Westerra, Dieppe, the Downtown and Broad North neighbourhoods. According to a media release from the city, the route will now include a stop at the GTH as well as more trips throughout the week and weekends to Westerra.
“This is another way we are making transit more inclusive, accessible and safe for all Regina residents,” Brad Bells, the director of transit and fleet for the City of Regina, said in the release. “GTH employees and Westerra residents will benefit from this forward-thinking partnership.”
According to the city, Regina Transit will offer 16 trips each weekday to the GTH, 10 trips on Saturdays and four trips on Sundays and holidays. The schedule for the expanded route fits with shift changes at Loblaw’s Distribution Centre, which the release said is the largest employer in the area.
“Employees working at the GTH now have a convenient and affordable option to get to and from work,” GTH CEO Daniel Hersche said in the release. “With significant growth projected over the next few years, it’s important to us to provide our tenants and their employees access to services and amenities that optimize their experience with us.
“Our partnership with the City of Regina is one way we are delivering on this goal.”
