The student population at the University of Regina has reached an all-time high.
According to a media release, a record 16,860 students are registered for classes in the university’s fall semester. That’s an increase of 893 students from the fall semester of 2022.
“It is exciting to see this significant increase in enrolment, and we are grateful to every single student who has chosen the University of Regina for their post-secondary journey,” Dr. Jeff Keshen, the U of R’s president and vice-chancellor, said in a media release.
“The U of R’s collective strength is a result of our diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. No one is alone here, everyone belongs, and we work together to succeed as individuals and as a whole.”
According to the university, 2,337 of the students registered for the fall semester self-identify as First Nations, Metis or Inuit. There also are 4,148 international students enrolled in classes at the school.
The university said the fall semester features 3,564 new students.
The release from the university said the faculties of science and kinesiology and health studies posted the largest growth in enrolment, with both reporting approximately 15 per cent more students compared to last year.
The university stressed that the enrolment numbers are preliminary; the official numbers are to be released in October.
