Thousands of Saskatchewan drivers are learning the importance of having an up-to-date licence and registration.
And they’re learning the hard way.
Since the start of 2023, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan — a partnership which consists of RCMP and municipal police officers around the province — has issued 3,755 charges and 1,631 warnings to drivers who were out on Saskatchewan’s roads with invalid vehicle registrations.
That works out to just under 15 charges per day.
Driving without a valid licence has also been all too common in Saskatchewan so far in 2023, with police issuing 929 charges and 135 warnings.
“Saskatchewan RCMP reminds residents that licence and registration regulations exist to ensure our roads are safe,” the Mounties said in a statement. “If you don’t have a licence or valid registration, don’t drive.”
Over the same period, the RCMP said police issued 491 charges and 147 warnings for invalid trailer registrations, 197 charges and 18 warnings for learner drivers who weren’t accompanied by a qualified person, and 178 charges and 75 warnings for failing to comply with licence endorsement restrictions.
