That’s according to CEO James Bogusz who said that passenger volumes have reached 90.5 per cent of pre-pandemic volumes as of August.
Recently, the airport has reopened its main runway, which Bogusz said will allow air traffic to return to normal.
On the Greg Morgan Morning Show, Bogusz spoke about the return of popular U.S. flight destinations such as Phoenix, Orlando and Las Vegas.
“However, the Phoenix frequency was reduced this year,” Bogusz said. “Typically we get two flights a year and we were down to one.”
The Phoenix flight is scheduled to begin Nov. 16. Bogusz said WestJet has agreed to a second frequency that is slated to start up on Dec. 16.
“This one’s gonna fly Saturdays for most of the winter right into the early spring,” Bogusz said. “So that means you can take a nonstop to Phoenix starting Nov.16 On Thursdays, (and for) Dec. 16 — Saturdays and Thursdays. It’s going to be great for connections.”
Starting in October, WestJet will offer two flights per week to Las Vegas, but it will drop down to just one on Nov. 2.
Bogusz said the airport is in talks with WestJet to increase the frequency.
“We’re talking with them, trying to encourage them,” he said. “We’re hearing a lot of feedback from the public. We love Vegas from our city, so we’ve been encouraging them to consider adding another flight but we will see.”
Bogusz said domestic fares have been reduced compared to last year.
“I’m seeing WestJet and Air Canada offering base fares to (Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal) most days of the week,” Bogusz said. “You can easily find a fare for well under $200.”
