More than two years after a worker was hurt near Moose Jaw, a company has been fined $56,000 for violating occupational health and safety regulations.
The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety said the incident happened Sept. 9, 2021, when the worker was badly hurt when they were “impacted” by a printing press.
A media release from the ministry Friday didn’t provide any other details on the incident, like where or how it happened, or the nature of the worker’s injuries.
The release said the company was charged under the regulations with failing to make “arrangements for the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances in a manner that protects the health and safety of workers.”
On Sept. 13, the Moose Jaw-based Ray Donn Toews Building Materials Ltd. pleaded guilty in Moose Jaw Provincial Court to one violation of the occupational health and safety regulations. Two other charges were withdrawn.
As a result of the guilty plea, the company was fined $40,000 with a surcharge of $16,000.
