Saskatchewan residents can now book one appointment to receive this year’s flu vaccine and a COVID-19 booster, which targets the Omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant.
Starting Oct. 10, the shots will be available at public health clinics, local pharmacies, and some physician and nurse practitioner offices. In a release announcing the return of the flu season and immunizations, Health Minister Everett Hindley noted the significance of keeping up to date with vaccinations.
“It’s important to remember that you’re not only protecting yourself against illness; you’re protecting your family and friends as well; getting immunized is proven in the fight against illness and will help keep you and your loved ones healthy,” said Hindley. He urged those considered most at risk to get immunized this season.
“We continue to offer free access to high-dose flu shots to all seniors in Saskatchewan; I strongly encourage everyone — especially seniors and anyone with underlying health issues — to get their immunization as soon as they can,” said Hindley.
Those considered most at risk of contracting influenza are seniors, people with chronic health conditions, children under age five, and pregnant women. Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are free of charge and are eligible for any resident six months of age or older. Children from six months to five years can only be immunized at a SHA public flu clinic, public health office, or by a physician or nurse practitioner.
Those who have booked an appointment must bring their Saskatchewan health card with them when going to receive their immunization.
