A former employee of the Horizon School Division is facing charges after being suspected of stealing thousands of dollars worth of fuel.
According to a loss report published by the provincial government, the school division β which operates 43 schools in east-central Saskatchewan β lost $3,791.80 between September of 2022 and last February due to suspected fuel theft by an employee.
The Saskatchewan RCMP said it received 818 reports of thefts of diesel and/or gas in 2022, an increase of approximately 70 per cent over numbers reported in 2021.
According to the report, the employee in question is no longer working for the division.
βThe matter was reported to the RCMP and charges have been laid,β the report read.
No other financial losses by school divisions were noted in the quarterly report.
Last year, another Horizon employee was fired after more than $4,600 went missing.
