Many drivers in Regina got a tough refresher on winter storm driving Tuesday morning.
After rain, several centimetres of snow fell heavily in just a couple of hours. Then the snow slacked off, but it continued to fall lightly off and on for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, the City of Regina’s manager of roadways said crews were prepared.
“We had all our sanders and plows out on the road addressing any icy conditions as they came up and we are going to respond to any snow plowing or ice control needs that arise throughout the day,” said Tyler Bien.
Speaking Tuesday afternoon, Bien said crews were planning to be out working into the night.
“We’re going to focus on ice control and plowing snow on a lot of our priority roads to continue that melting (and) to continue that increase in the road surface,” he said.
Given the active melting happening as the snow fell and the milder temperatures set to arrive over the next few days, Bien said the city wouldn’t be declaring snow routes.
Bien was encouraging drivers to slow down and stay back 3 1/2 car-lengths from any winter equipment they come across.
“They’re out there. They’re trying to make the roads better for everybody so stay back (and) let them do their jobs so everybody can get to work safe,” said Bien.
