Saskatchewan Roughriders cornerback Nic Marshall is facing a gun charge in Georgia.
According to media reports, Marshall and a woman who was in a vehicle with him were arrested in Columbus, Ga., on Wednesday. Inside the car, reports said, police found an automatic handgun that had been modified.
“The Saskatchewan Roughriders were made aware Sunday night through media reports that Nic Marshall was arrested on a gun possession charge in Georgia,” the CFL team said in a statement. “The Club is disappointed and taking this matter seriously. We are currently gathering more information and will provide an update soon after.”
The Roughriders have a code of conduct for their players, but it’s unknown at this time if it will come into play in the wake of Marshall’s arrest.
Marshall, a 31-year-old from Pineview, Ga., played quarterback in college with the Auburn University Tigers. After converting to defensive back, he joined the Roughriders in 2018 following stints in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.
In 2023, Marshall had 31 tackles and five interceptions in 17 regular-season games. In 77 career regular-season CFL games — all with Saskatchewan — he has 150 tackles and 20 interceptions.
