For 25 years, Saskatchewan has listened to News Talk Radio for opinions, perspectives and information about the stories that matter most to those who live here.
The Evan Bray Show premieres Monday morning on 650 CKOM and 980 CJME, and those closest to the host along with his predecessor are sharing why Bray was selected as the New Voice of Saskatchewan.
Watch the trailer for The Evan Bray Show:
Rhonda Blackmore, commanding officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP:
“Evan is genuine. He’s an outstanding human being. He really embodies leadership and all of those characteristics that we look for in a leader,” Blackmore said.
“Evan truly cares about this province. This is the right person because he will ask the pointed questions, the hard questions, and he does that from a point of caring about the province.”
Jodie Bray, Evan’s wife:
“I think Evan is going to be great. He loves people and he’s very proud about the roots that he has,” Jodie said.
“Letting his guard down and letting people know his true thoughts towards topics, towards controversy, towards politics – I think he’ll do that in a respectful way.
“I think he’ll bring the province together.”
Tim Bray, Evan’s brother:
“He’s always been a really likable guy,” Tim said. “And he’s put himself in some pretty tough situations over the years as well, and to be able to put his head up and maintain his composure and just be true to who he is, I think, is a real testament to the kind of person he is.”
John Gormley:
“For Evan and the show and the listeners, there’s a whole new chapter,” the long-time talk show host said.
“(He’s a) compelling storyteller, passionate, funny – I thought this would definitely be the person we should talk to.”
Brad Wall, former premier of Saskatchewan:
“This particular slot has become, I think, the most important media place or product in the province,” the former premier said.
“The challenge to find someone to continue to ensure that’s the case, to build that momentum, would have been significant. I think they nailed it. I think Evan’s perfect.
“He was born on a farm. He understands rural Saskatchewan. He obviously understands urban Saskatchewan, and he’s got a broadcast background – he started in radio.”
Evan Bray:
“There’s significant responsibility with the chief of police job, and with this job I think there is as well,” said the new host.
“The ability to spew hate and to take divisive sides on issues and to really try to tear apart what I think is the fabric of good community is happening at an alarming rate.
“Perspective is one of the most powerful things in the world. Having the perspective of the listeners (and guests) makes for good dialogue, makes for good radio, makes for balanced conversations, which is so important.”
