Investigators have determined the fire at the Regina Battery Depot and CAA Car Care Centre on Tuesday was a case of arson.
Regina Fire and Protective Services issued a media release Wednesday saying it had completed its probe into the fire and determined it was deliberately set.
The release said investigators were working closely with the Regina Police Service on the case.
“As it is an open RPS investigation, Regina Fire and Protective Services will not comment further,” the release said.
The fire broke out early Tuesday on the north side of the building on Dewdney Avenue. Fire crews were first notified of the blaze at 2:25 a.m. and, upon arrival, found the building on fire.
The warehouse at the back of the building was heavily damaged by the flames.
“There was extensive damage to the northeast corner of the building which is currently being demolished to ensure safety at the site,” CAA Saskatchewan said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “The remainder of the building received water and smoke damage.
“No one was in the building at the time. The business is closed until further notice.”
