Regina police have released more details about an operation on Friday that involved the SWAT team.
In a media release Wednesday, police said officers from the Street Gang unit and SWAT team executed a search warrant at a house in the 700 block of Cameron Street. The warrant resulted from an investigation by the Street Gang and Serious Habitual Offender Comprehensive Action Program units.
Inside the house, officers found a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, a .22-calibre semi-automatic carbine, ammunition, an overcapacity “drum” .22-calibre magazine, a .22-calibre magazine, several 9-millimetre pistol magazines, and gun parts.
A 19-year-old man was charged with two counts each of unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a firearm while prohibited, and one count each of possession of a prohibited firearm with readily available ammunition and possession of ammunition while prohibited.
He made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
“The Regina Police Service continues to work diligently to address the prevalence of firearms being used to commit crime in our city,” the release said.
